7 movies you can stream for free

Every week, we publish a list of free movies to watch on The Roku Channel. This week’s slate packs a punch when it comes to star power, featuring big names like Arnold, De Niro, Paltrow, and Cage.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990): Four teenage mutant ninja turtles emerge from the shadows to protect New York City from a gang of criminal ninjas. Starring Judith Hoag and Elias Koteas.

Fun fact: All 4 actors who played the Turtles also had cameos throughout the film.

The 6th Day (2000): Futuristic action about a man who meets a clone of himself and stumbles into a grand conspiracy about clones taking over the world. Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Michael Rapaport.

Fun fact: The movie title was changed from “The Sixth Day” to “The 6th Day” to avoid confusion with The Sixth Sense.

The Fan (1996): An all star baseball player becomes the unhealthy focus of a down on his luck salesman. Starring Robert De Niro and Wesley Snipes.

Fun fact: The great Cal Ripken, Jr. was Wesley Snipes personal batting instructor during filming.

Leaving Las Vegas (1995): Ben Sanderson, a Hollywood screenwriter who lost everything because of his alcoholism, arrives in Las Vegas to drink himself to death. There, he meets and forms an uneasy friendship and non-interference pact with prostitute Sera. Starring Nicolas Cage and Elisabeth Shue.

Fun fact: Permits were not issued for some street scenes. Some scenes had to done in one shot to avoid any police contact.

The Client (1994): A young boy who witnessed the suicide of a mafia lawyer hires an attorney to protect him when the District Attorney tries to use him to take down a mob family. Starring Susan Sarandon and Tommy Lee Jones.

Fun fact: Micole Mercurio was just eight years older than her screen daughter Susan Sarandon.

Stir of Echoes (1999): After being hypnotized by his sister in law, a man begins seeing haunting visions of a girl’s ghost and a mystery begins to unfold around him. Starring Kevin Bacon and Zachary David Cope.

Fun fact: The hypnosis sequence in which Tom is hypnotized for the first time follows actual techniques used by professional hypnotists. In order to ensure that the audience hasn’t been put to sleep, there’s a musical accent at the close of the sequence to wake everyone up.

Country Strong (2010): A rising country-music songwriter works with a fallen star to work their way to fame, causing romantic complications along the way. Starring Garrett Hedlund, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Tim McGraw.

Fun fact: Garrett and Tim worked together 6 years prior to Country Strong as father and son in Friday Night Lights.
