First look at the Roku TV™ Wireless Speakers [guest post]

Posted: 25 Sep 2018 06:00 AM PDT

What’s up everybody! I’m Brian Tong, and I’m a huge tech/gadget freak. I’ve covered tech stuff for years and you might have seen some of my work before, but if you haven’t you’re still going to want to watch this.

I’ve always sought out new companies doing great things. Roku is one of those companies. I've been following them since the very first Roku Player back in 2008! I bought one and thought the interface and the content destroyed everyone else out there, which is impressive considering what a small company they were at the time. Today, Roku is still my favorite streaming platform and it's been exciting to see how they’ve built their own ecosystem for the TV.

I was thrilled when Roku invited me to their office so I could give you a first look at their Roku TV Wireless Speakers that bring an easy to set-up and real innovation to the home theater space if you own a Roku TV. These speakers remind me of what I saw in the original Roku Player. A quality and innovative product that hasn’t been done before, and a platform that is just getting bigger and better every day.

So here it is, a first look at the Roku TV Wireless Speakers. And I love that freakin’ Roku Touch™!

New 4K Roku Premiere and Roku Premiere+, and updated Roku Ultra

Posted: 24 Sep 2018 06:01 AM PDT

Today we're excited to tell you about our lowest priced 4K + HDR streaming players ever, the Roku Premiere and the Roku Premiere+. There will be tens of millions of 4K TVs sold this year, so if you just bought a 4K TV or if you're thinking about it, these players are an easy way to give your TV the best picture quality it can handle at a fantastic price.

We're also updating our top-of-the-line streaming player, the Roku Ultra and we're unveiling the latest version of our operating system, Roku OS 9 (click here to learn more).

Roku Premiere and Roku Premiere+Roku Premiere and Roku Premiere+

The new Roku Premiere and Roku Premiere+ are the easiest and most affordable way to stream outstanding picture quality.

The Roku Premiere is the simple way to start streaming in HD, 4K or 4K HDR. At just $39.99 MSRP, it's our lowest priced 4K streamer ever.

It's small in price and in size. The low profile form factor is tiny enough to tuck underneath or beside your TV but it's big on the inside with a powerful quad-core processor and compatibility with 11bgn wireless.

Like all of our players, we include an easy-to-use remote with channel shortcut buttons – we even include the batteries. And to help you get set up and streaming right away, the Roku Premiere also includes a Premium high-speed HDMI cable.

The Roku Premiere+, a Walmart exclusive, makes it easy to turn your streaming up a notch at $49.99 MSRP. It includes everything Roku Premiere offers plus a voice remote that has power and volume buttons for your TV.

Improved Roku Ultra

At just $99.99 MSRP, Roku's most powerful and feature-packed player gets – and sounds – even better than before. It offers everything a streamer could want.

This player is the ultimate in connectivity, offering both Ethernet 10/100 and 802.11ac dual-band wireless. The enhanced remote has TV power and volume buttons, gaming buttons, and a headphone jack for private listening.

And that brings us to change for this fall…we will now be including premium JBL headphones which are valued at $39.95! One other fun update for the Roku Ultra is the addition of two new remote finder sounds: SportsCenter's Da-Da-Da from ESPN and HBO's Game of Thrones theme song.

Availability

The Roku Premiere is available for pre-order at Roku.com beginning today and, along with the Roku Ultra, will be available at all major retailers beginning in early October. The Roku Premiere+ will be available exclusively at Walmart and Walmart.com in early October.

7 fictional high schools we wish we went to

Did you ever dream of playing basketball at Bayside or jumping into the drama at West Beverly? School is back in session and there's no better time to revisit the coolest schools from some of your favorite shows!

1. Bayside High School from Saved by the Bell

Who doesn’t want to attend close to the beach and within walking distance to The Max?! Also, seems that you can get away with pretty much anything at Bayside High…at least if you’re Zack Morris. Join the neon-clan 90s gang, where they survive final exams, school dances and breakups. Available on NBC (select seasons free), Hulu, Prime VideoGoogle Play, and VUDU

2. Constance Billard-St.Judes School from Gossip Girl

If jumping into the ring of drama is your thing then Constance Billard-St.Judes is your ultimate high school. The prep school on the Upper East Side of New York educates the most elite, well dressed and privileged which brings the most outrageous parties and perks. Oh, and the campus is pretty nice too. Available on Netflix, Prime Video, FandangoNOW, Google Play, and VUDU.

3. Sunnydale High School from Buffy the Vampire Slayer

From studying computer science to slaying vampires, there isn't a normal day for Buffy Summers at paranormal Sunnydale High in Southern California. | Hulu, Prime Video, FandangoNOW, Google Play, and VUDU.

4. West Beverly Hills High School from Beverly Hills, 90210

5. The Harbor School from The O.C.

Arguably the most stunning campus on this list, The Harbor School is actually shot at a college in Los Angeles. It boasts an on-campus cafe and barista, meticulously manicured lawn, close proximity to the beach and a parking lot full of Range Rovers and BMWs. | Hulu, Prime Video, FandangoNOW, Google Play, and VUDU.

6. John Adams High School from Boy Meets World

With the help of true love Topanga and best friend Shawn, Cory Matthews jumps from slacking in class to snacking at Chubbie's Famous, the diner where students grab a bite after class. But the invaluable guidance from Mr. Feeny makes John Adams High School stand out from the others. | Hulu, Prime Video, FandangoNOW, Google Play, and VUDU

7. McKinley High School from Freaks and Geeks
