Ask the Google Assistant to find and control your entertainment on Roku devices

Your favorite entertainment is just a few words away. Now you can control select* Roku streaming devices, running Roku OS 8.1 or above in the U.S., via Google Assistant supported devices, such as smart speakers, phones and Smart Displays. Simply ask the Google Assistant to find your favorite movie, launch Hulu, pause your TV show and more!

Google Assistant on Roku

Linking your Google Home app and Roku account allows you to control your Roku device using your Google Assistant devices. You can search for movies and TV shows, control media playback to play, pause, fast forward and more. Additional functionality, such as turning a Roku TV on or off, volume control and switching inputs is available, if using a Roku TV.

Examples of how you can use the Google Assistant to search or control media playback on your Roku device:

  • "Hey Google, launch The Roku Channel on Roku"
  • "Hey Google, find documentaries on Roku"
  • "Hey Google, show me comedies on Roku"
  • "Hey Google, pause on Roku"

If you have a Roku TV, you can also ask the Google Assistant to do things like:

  • "Hey Google, turn on Roku"**
  • "Hey Google, turn up the volume on Roku"
  • "Hey Google, mute on Roku"
  • "Hey Google, change to channel 5.1 on Roku"***
  • "Hey Google, switch to HDMI 2 on Roku"

**You must have Fast TV Start enabled on your Roku TV to use Google Assistant voice commands to turn on your TV.

*** You must have an HDTV antenna connected to your Roku TV to use Google Assistant voice commands to change channels on your TV tuner.
